Why Santa Monica runs out so fast

Eight and a half square miles of some of the most expensive land in the county. A six bed care home needs an ordinary house, and ordinary houses here sell for what a small care business cannot carry. So 9 of the 15 are licensed for six residents or fewer, and 6 for twenty five or more, and that is the whole field inside the city line.

The honest advice is to stop drawing the circle around Santa Monica. Most of the homes that serve families here are a few minutes east, in Mar Vista, Palms and West Los Angeles, and the state files those under Los Angeles, so they never appear when you search this city by name. They do not show up below either. What this page can show you is the rest of the Westside: Culver City 7, Pacific Palisades 3, Venice 1, which is 11 more homes within a short drive of here.

A street address is printed only for homes licensed for 25 residents or more. A home licensed for six is somebody's house, and its address is not ours to publish. The licence number is public either way, and you can look any of these up yourself on the state's site.

Board and care home: Licensed for six or fewer. An ordinary house on an ordinary street. Small community: Seven to twenty four residents. Assisted living community: Twenty five residents or more.
